Then either tap on the call or video call icon at the top of the screen. — Once you’re within the call click on the “Add Participant” button to bring more users into the call. — This can be repeated up to seven times to add up to 8 participants in the call.

WhatsApp has recently changed the upper limit for people who can join on a video call from 4 to 8. In order to reach the maximum limit of 8, everyone on call must have the updated version of WhatsApp.
